PlayOn is planning to release PlayOn Premium on July 15th which will bring new streaming content from Comedy Central, NHL, TV.com and MTV.com. This is in addition to PlayOn’s existing arsenal of content from Hulu, Netflix, CBS.com, ESPN.com, CNN.com, YouTube, MyMedia and plugins as well as Amazon VOD, MLB.tv and Pandora.
With PlayOn Premium the company will move to a yearly subscription model ($39.99 for the first year and $19.99 for each year after) instead of the one-time fee, lifetime license model they use now. PlayOn will continue to honor existing lifetime licenses purchased prior to May 20, 2010.
PlayOn’s core will continue to receive new features and support but no new content will be added aside from using plugins.
